Executive Function Programs

The executive functions are a set of processes that all have to do with managing oneself and one's resources in order to achieve a goal. It is an umbrella term for the neurologically-based skills involving mental control and self-regulation.

Psychologists and neuropsychologists have been working to discover what underlying cognitive skills are necessary to be a successful, smart and organized individual.  It is observed that children and adolescents who lack executive functions like goal-directed persistence, time management, task initiation, planning/prioritizing, impulse control, working memory or metacognition can struggle scholastically.  These children may score very high on scholastic exams, however their ability to:

- remember teacher or parent directions

- complete an activity

- refocus

- remain organized or

- pass in homework/classwork in a timely manner may be severely impaired.

At Outside The Lines, LLC we will work to evaluate your child's executive functions in order to determine where his/her strengths and weaknesses are.  Treatment plans and strategies will then be introduced and used to help teach your child how to utilize his strengths and improve his areas of weakness.
